RTG Crane Electrification and Busbar Power Transmission at Kumport

In the eRTG project carried out at Kumport Port (Ambarlı, Istanbul), BM Makina enabled diesel RTG cranes to switch to a grid-fed electric operating model with VAHLE conductor rail (busbar) infrastructure, current-collection systems and on-crane integration solutions. The insulated conductor lines installed along the RTG runways provide uninterrupted 3-phase power transmission, while an optional data-transmission architecture (SMGX, etc.) also supports monitoring and communication infrastructure in field operations. Within the project, steel support structures, feed points, panel/control infrastructure and commissioning processes were adapted to the site with BM Makina engineering. As a result, Kumport moved to a quieter, cleaner and more sustainable site operation that reduces fuel consumption and the maintenance burden in RTG operations.
