On 30 January, the locomotive depot of Azerbaijan Railways Closed Joint-Stock Company in Ganja entered service. According to the news, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, attended the event and performed the official opening of the depot facility.

The next project implemented within the framework of the fourth regional development programme is the Ganja locomotive depot. The new depot will carry out the maintenance and repair of AC electric locomotives. Together with the Biləcəri locomotive depot opened in November 2021, the Ganja depot was also built with joint financing from the Government of Azerbaijan and the French Development Agency.

It was reported that the main maintenance area has a two-storey platform allowing 6 locomotives to be serviced at the same time. The new depot has the capacity to provide uninterrupted maintenance for all the AC locomotives ordered.

The Ganja locomotive depot is equipped with modern equipment and devices manufactured in the USA, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Italy, Türkiye, South Korea, China, Russia and many other countries. In addition, 350 solar panels were installed in the depot area, meeting part of the energy needs.

75 people are expected to be employed at the new depot. The commissioning of the Ganja locomotive depot will provide energy savings, cost reduction, optimized repair and maintenance, increased operational reliability and uninterrupted transport.
