High-Precision Optical Positioning Solution for Industry 4.0

Production lines in modern industry are becoming smarter and more interconnected every day. As the level of network integration rises rapidly, so do the expectations for process reliability. Positioning automatically controlled conveyor systems with millimetre precision under all operating conditions has become a basic requirement.

The VAHLE APOS Optical Positioning System was designed to meet this need. Two high-resolution cameras integrated into the reading head optically scan DataMatrix codes placed along the line, determining the absolute position without any reference movement. The system reads six code fields simultaneously and safely bridges gaps of up to 40 mm. Integrated LED lighting ensures stable reading performance even in demanding environments.

The code band can be integrated into the carrier profile of the conveyor system via an aluminium rail, or bonded directly to steel surfaces.

APOS Optical Systems are optimized to work in full compatibility with VAHLE Drive Control Systems, and also offer high integration capability with VAHLE Power Transmission Systems. When required, the system can be supported by Data Communication modules to become a comprehensive system solution. In addition, a full diagnostic kit makes precise alignment of the reading head easy and provides detailed system analysis in the event of a fault.
