VAHLE VCS-SMG-SAFE & VCS-PCB-SAFE – Safe Application Control Systems
Today, intralogistics and automotive production applications run with a high degree of automation. As the flexibility requirements of plants grow ever more complex, new challenges arise for logistics planners and system integrators. Functional safety plays an increasingly important role in modern machine and plant design. Safe shutdown is critical not only for protecting personnel but also for preventing interruptions in the production process.
The TÜV-approved VCS-SMG-SAFE and VCS-PCB-SAFE safe application control systems work in full harmony with VCSX drive control units, allowing predefined safety functions to be commissioned quickly and easily. These safety modules come pre-configured with application-specific, fail-safe configurations. Safe control and monitoring of the drive technology is handled entirely by the VCS-SMG-SAFE or VCS-PCB-SAFE units.
Encoder-supported safety functions — such as Safely Limited Speed (SLS) or Safe Position (SPOS) — can be easily implemented, especially in applications like electrified monorail systems. System parameters can be flexibly adapted to field conditions, so no complex programming is needed in the plant PLC; data exchange is reduced to the transmission of process and diagnostic data only.
Offering Safe Input support for safe switching between manual and automatic operation, the systems are also equipped with 1 HTL and 1 SSI encoder interface. In the VCS-SMG-SAFE version, communication with the plant PLC and the VCSX drive control unit is carried out via the PROFIsafe protocol, and data transmission between the fixed and moving sides is provided by the SMGM Slotted Microwave Guide system, which is completely immune to electromagnetic interference. In the VCS-PCB-SAFE version, all safety evaluations are performed directly and exclusively on the moving side.
Used together with Drive Control, Power Transmission, Positioning and Data Communication Systems modules, the VCS-SMG-SAFE and VCS-PCB-SAFE systems form part of VAHLE’s integrated system solution.
