Description
KATO MKT Single Layer Cable Reeling Drum (Motorized Cable Winding and Power Supply Systems)
The KATO MKT Motorized Single Layer Cable Reeling Drum is a motor driven cable winding system manufactured by BM Makina to supply energy and data to mobile systems, and to power diesel machinery converted to electric drive. Thanks to the single layer (monospiral) winding principle, the cable is collected in one layer on the drum: no overlapping, and crushing and abrasion are minimized. The magnetic-coupling drive automatically controls cable tension, extending cable life and delivering tidy winding without operator intervention. KATO cable reeling drums combine a brake asynchronous motor, magnetic coupling, gearbox, slip ring unit and a heavy-duty steel drum body — a robust package for demanding industrial conditions. The entire design complies with VDE and applicable IEC standards, delivering reliable performance in both power and data transmission.
Key Features
Single layer (monospiral) winding — maximum cable life: wound in one layer, the cable suffers no under-layer crushing, jamming or knotting; medium and long cable runs stay mechanically protected and maintenance intervals grow. Magnetic-coupling drive — controlled tension: the motor, gearbox and magnetic coupling keep cable tension at a fixed torque limit; the cable is never over-tightened or slack, and sudden loads are absorbed by coupling slip, protecting both machinery and cable. Uninterrupted power and data over the slip ring: the slip ring unit integrated into the drum hub transmits power and signals without twisting the cable — 3-phase PH+PE supply, control circuits and optional data lines (fieldbus, encoder signals etc.) handled in a single body. Heavy-duty steel body and corrosion protection: drum and chassis are industrial steel, hot-dip galvanized or epoxy painted for long-term corrosion resistance in ports, mines and steel plants. Brake motor and safe stopping: the electromagnetic brake engages automatically on power loss, preventing uncontrolled rotation and cable pay-out. Modular, project-specific design: drum diameter, cable length, slip ring pole count, motor power, mounting orientation and protection class are optimized per project — customer-focused engineering for special machines and cranes alongside the standard range.
Applications
Cranes and lifting systems — overhead cranes, gantry cranes, ceiling cranes; magnet cranes, foundry cranes; truck-mounted cranes and lifting platforms. Construction and mining machinery — electric or hybrid excavators, dozers, drilling rigs; tunnel boring and in-mine rail vehicles; mobile crushing/screening and conveyor systems. Industrial production lines — in-line transfer cars, conveyors; telescopic platforms, machine-mounted mobile equipment; moving stations on automotive and appliance assembly lines. Ports and mining — container cranes, stackers/reclaimers; ship loaders/unloaders; open-pit mining and ore handling systems. Energy and infrastructure — mobile equipment supply at rail (metro/tram) maintenance facilities; energy test areas and mobile power distribution units; drilling towers and wind turbine maintenance platforms.
